Design and Build FAQs
What is the design and build process for a video surveillance project?
The first step in designing your security system is to
to discuss your needs, expectations, and budget. A good design is a combination of positioning the cameras, proper resolution for desired results, computation of the field of view, specific consideration of lighting conditions, weighing the pros and cons of video and data storage at your facility versus cloud storage, and careful review of on-board or cloud-based analytics. Buying an improper camera system now can result in a costly upgrade or complete replacement in the future. Here are some things to consider when designing your video surveillance project:What is the primary goal of your video surveillance equipment?
- Allow you to look at your facility remotely to see if workers perform their assigned tasks.
- Check for intruders.
- Provide evidence to help combat frivolous lawsuits such as trip and fall claims.
- Combat frivolous workers comp injuries.
- Assist with property management, allowing you to ensure that commercial tenants are not parking where prohibited or going beyond their assigned storage spaces.
- Do you want to record audio? (Check with your attorney as there are legal ramifications)
What would you like your video system to accomplish?
- Are you just looking for general situational awareness or need excellent detail?
- Do you have some locations where you would like high-resolution images that are good enough to make an identification?
- Are you interested in higher-end analytics to differentiate between someone walking along your property line or tree branches blowing in the wind?
- Are you interested in analytics to count the number of people entering your facility?
- Do you want to remotely control some cameras from a distant location, allowing you to zoom in and pan 360°?
- Are you interested in creating heat maps of where people congregate and walk through your facility?
- Do you want to have some of these cameras professionally monitored by security agents now or in the future?
Once we understand your requirements, we’ll design it and prepare layouts for you to review and approve. Because we are camera and equipment agnostic, we are free to pick from dozens of manufacturers in different price ranges to ensure you get what you want at the price point you can afford. Two people review all our designs before we present them to you. Depending on the complexity, we may call in-network professionals, RCDD, computer engineers, and the manufacturer’s design team to assist in the design.
We move on to the build stage once we have finalized your system design. We will provide a detailed estimate, including materials and installation costs. We highly recommend you allow us to install the systems we designed, ensuring you get the best installation for every dollar spent. However, you may purchase the design, including a bill of materials, and any qualified installer can complete the installation.
What is the design and build process for an access control project?
The first step in designing your access control system is to to discuss your needs, expectations, and budget. Here are some things to consider when designing your access control project:
- What do you want your access control system to accomplish?
- How many employees do you have?
- Do you sometimes have to issue temporary credentials to service workers or occasional employees?
- Do you prefer a cloud-based system or a system that is housed on your premises?
- Do you have IT staff to support an on-premises solution?
- Do you want your access control system integrated with your camera system?
- What do you think will be the primary credential that is used?
Options include key fobs, cards in your wallet, smartphones, and smartwatches. - Do you have multiple facilities and want them all on the same system you can control?
